This
photo is the most technically complex of all I have taken. It
was made after sunset, so all of the light you see here - except
for the warm glow in the sky - was supplied by moi.
I
set up three small battery-powered flash units on the ground behind
the skater. On these flash units I taped blue gels, which make
the blue color on the inside edges of the tubes.
Then
I set up another flash in front of the skater (camera left) and
covered it with an amber gel to color the light illuminating him.
At the moment I pushed the shutter button I fired one flash, which
triggered all of the others using remote control devices. It worked.
