This photo was good luck. I had set my flash to go off as soon as I took a photo. In the case of this photo, I had just taken one photo and held down the motor drive, so another frame was fired.

There was not enough time for my flash to recycle, however, so the second frame (this one) shows only the silhouette of the skater, without the flash illumination.

The other hundred photos I shot are all well-illuminated and look ordinary (except for the cool background). This one is extra good. So being there is half the work, and getting the luck is the other half. As a side note, during a recent trip to the Apple Store I noticed that a few of my photos look incredible on their computers. This is one of them. The other is the photo of the girl in the Dominican Republic. They both have strong colors.
